BASIC INFO

Origin: Italy

About: After a trip to Italy in 1989, Karyn Korteling, owner of Pastabilities restaurant in Syracuse, was inspired to make her own version of tomato oil using tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, honey, chili pepper, and other spices. Twenty-five years later, Hot Tom is still on the shelves in Central New York today.

Use it as a garnish for soups or salads. Top it on pasta, burgers, and sandwiches. Or simply dip a piece of bread in it. You can make your own tomato-infused oil by roasting cherry tomatoes with garlic and any other herbs or spices you like. Then simply blend it all together.
