Origin: Cincinnati, Ohio
Company: Hen of the Woods humble beginning was non other than a farmer’s market stand. With an arsenal of quality ingredients and striking flavors, the team of chefs crafted a series of products that made everyone want more. Today, their snacks sell across five states in several hundred stores.
Ingredients: potatoes • non-GMO sunflower and/or safflower oil • red wine vinegar powder (corn maltodextrin, red wine vinegar) • salt • citric acid
Why I chose this snack: I have a friend who LOVES salt & vinegar chips. She’s the reason I tried them in the first place, otherwise I’d live an acid-less life (both the snack and drug). With an intense salty burn, you either love them or hate them. I fall in the former because I love punch-in-your-face flavors.
What worked: Some of the chips have a subtle pink tinge which I thought was cool. The hard crunch from the kettle cooked potato chips combined with the salty-sour coating makes for a HIGHLY addictive snack.
What didn’t: There’s definitely a tangy touch of red wine vinegar, but not enough that I would be able to tell the difference between regular Salt & Vinegar chips. I wish there was more of a district red wine flavor.
Suggested uses: serve with dips like sour cream • layer in a lunch sandwich • use as a crunchy topping for casseroles • pulse in a food processor and use as coating for deep-fried snacks
Store: While not available state-wide, this brand can be found in stores closest to you with Hen of the Woods store locator. I bought my bag at Marhsalls.
