SNACK ATTACK: Blueberry Sesame Sticks

Blueberry Sesame Sticks Opened Bag

Origin: New Jersey

Company: Crunchy Cravings

Ingredients: enriched wheat flour • thiamine mononitrateriboflavin • soybean oil • bulgur wheat • quinoa seeds • yellow corn masa • blueberry streusel seasoning • canola oil • malic acid • butter • turmeric • salt • chia seeds • beet powder

Why I chose this snack: I LOVE sesame sticks (especially the ones from Trader Joe’s). So when my eyes laid upon these, I was confused. I thought sesame sticks were savory, not fruity. Quelle intrigue!

What worked: Sweet n’ salty always works! It never disappoints. What’s cool about this particular pair is that it’s a fruit powdery exterior that melts away and transitions into that nutty crunchy taste.

What didn’t: I was expecting more blueberry flavor through out. The coating dissolves pretty quickly so you really gotta savor those 3 seconds before the sesame takes over.

Suggested uses: I would love to play more with the idea of blueberry and sesame. I feel like a sesame pie crust for a blueberry pie or cheesecake would be heavenly. Blitz the sticks in a food processor, mix them with melted butter and for that crust, baby! Other applications for these sticks include adding them to trail mix or popcorn. Maybe crush them for a topping on baked goods too.

Store: I found these at Tuesday Morning, so it’s possible you’ll find them at other discount stores like Marshall’s. But it’s no long available in retail.

Online: This brand doesn’t exist anymore. Their website on the bag doesn’t even work. RIP.

Other Flavors: jalapeño cheddarpineapple habaneromaple bacon

Make Your Own: In a food processor, pulse freeze dried blueberries into a powder. Alternately, purchase blueberry powder. Whisk together 1 tablespoon blueberry powder, 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon light brown sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Toss 1 cup of sesame sticks in a bowl with 1/2 tablespoon neutral oil and blueberry seasoning to taste.
